#113 - THAMARAI PLAY TREEHOUSE

LOCATION: Annai Nagar, Pondicherry, India.
DATE: March 2021
MATERIALS: Acacia auriculiformis structural beams. Local wood varieties for playground details. Cashew oil treated hard wood roofing shingles.

Thamarai Play Treehouse is a modular stilt supported compact playhouse attached to a Neem Tree. On the new campus of the Thamarai School in a little village of South India, we were asked to build something on which children of varying ages could have fun offering several activities within a small space, and with a wooden treehouse feel. Putting these ideas together we developed this tiny playground built on our tyre posts and featuring a wooden climbing wall with typical handles, a round log climbing wall, a rope net, a wooden slide, two swings attached to a Neem Tree and the playhouse, and a cosy space for the children to call their own.

Thamarai is an evening school which works on the overall holistic development of children with various components of arts, crafts, science, technology, culture and leadership interwoven while also being a facility to support the children with their homework and coursework.
