TRADITIONAL TREEHOUSES

Step back in time with our Traditional Treehouses, inspired by the age-old designs of South India. Crafted using locally sourced materials and time-honored techniques, these treehouses blend seamlessly with their natural surroundings, offering an authentic and sustainable way to experience life among the trees. Perfectly suited for the warm, tropical climate, our Traditional Treehouses provide a cool, airy, and serene retreat that honors the rich heritage of the land.

MELODY TREEHOUSE

As the name suggests and given by its students, the Melody Treehouse was used as a musical classroom for children to experience and express their musical aspirations in a space among the trees. Not only was it a convenient space slightly further away from the other classrooms acting as a sound barrier, it also gave the children a sense of liberty to play as they felt. This traditional treehouse was built during a one week construction workshop using locally sourced materials. The tall tamarind tree has hosted many children and continues to stand strong while the school turns the page to yet another chapter of its book.

O'BANYAN TREEHOUSE

We often organise workshops to share the possibility with any human being to access their dream of building a treehouse in their back garden. The Traditional Treehouse Construction workshop brings up the basics of climbing, design, treehouse structure, tree knowledge, and materials to build a treehouse. No machine tools are used but hands and cutties (Indian machetes). The O’Banyan was built on a large Banyan tree, and we used all the materials usually harvested for a traditional South Indian ‘keeth house’: casuarina beams, Areca nut (pakku maram) planks, woven coconut (Keeth) roof, coconut pod (palai) binders, and coconut rope.
